Koh Samui enjoys a tropical climate year-round, but choosing the right time to visit can make the difference between a perfect holiday and a rainy one. Unlike mainland Thailand, Koh Samui has its own unique weather pattern — and understanding it is key to planning your trip.
Koh Samui Weather by Season
Peak Season: December – March (Best Weather)
This is the best time to visit Koh Samui. Expect warm, sunny days with temperatures between 26–32°C, low humidity, and calm seas. It is the driest period on the island, making it ideal for beach days, snorkeling trips to Koh Tao, and boat tours to Angthong Marine Park.

Hot Season: April – June
April and May are the hottest months on Koh Samui, with temperatures reaching 34°C. The sea remains calm, making it a great time for snorkeling and diving. Brief afternoon showers are common but rarely last more than an hour.

Green Season: July – September
Often called the green season, this is a surprisingly good time to visit. Rain is intermittent (not monsoon-like), the island is lush and green, and prices are at their lowest. Most tours operate normally, including jungle safaris and boat trips.

- Crowds: Low — fewer tourists, more authentic experience

Monsoon Season: October – November (Wettest Period)
October and November see the most rainfall on Koh Samui, with occasional heavy downpours. Some boat tours may be cancelled on particularly rough days. However, rain often comes in bursts — mornings can be sunny, with storms in the afternoon. Land-based activities like elephant care and 4×4 safaris operate rain or shine.

When to Book Your Tours
Regardless of when you visit, most tours and activities on Koh Samui operate year-round. During peak season (December–March), we recommend booking popular tours like the Angthong Marine Park tour and 4×4 Jungle Safari at least 2–3 days in advance, as they fill up quickly.
During the green and monsoon seasons, you can usually book a day or two ahead. All tours include free hotel pickup from anywhere on Koh Samui.

For the best overall experience, visit Koh Samui between January and April. You will get warm, sunny weather, calm seas perfect for island hopping and snorkeling, and the island at its most vibrant.
